First Joyful Mystery: The Annunciation

Luke 1:26-28

The Annunciation – The Angel Gabriel announces to the Virgin Mary that God wishes her to become the Mother of His Son.  Mary obeys with humility and joy.

Resolution – I desire the love of humility.  I will be humble and courteous toward all.

Thanks – Thank you, Mary, for your obedience and for freely accepting God’s will.

? What do you think of when you review this mystery?

… What would it be like to meet God’s messenger, Gabriel? Can you picture yourself in Mary’s shoes?   … Think about how humbling it would be to be greeted by an angel with “Hail, the Lord is with you”   … What would it be like to respond with obedience and joy?   … Think about what it would be like in Joseph’s shoes? Or Mary’s parents?   … What would it be like to say “yes” to the Lord. “Thy will be done.”   … How hard it is to determine what God’s will is?

After reviewing the Resolution and Thanks statements and the meditations, can you think of additional ones?

Second Joyful Mystery: The Visitation

Luke 1:39-45

The Visitation – Mary visits St. Elizabeth, who is to be the mother of St. John the Baptist.  She remains and assists Elizabeth lovingly for three months.

Resolution – I desire charity (love) toward my neighbor.  I will help my neighbor in need.

Thanks – Thank you, Father, for the strength we are able to draw from Mary’s example.

? What do you think of when you review this mystery?

… What would it be like to be Elizabeth and Mary?   … Could I visit a neighbor in need for months despite my own situation?   … Think about Elizabeth’s response and what your own response would be?   … Would I (do I ) recognize Christ in others and shout with joy?

After reviewing the Resolution and Thanks statements and the meditations, can you think of additional ones?

Third Joyful Mystery: The Nativity

Luke 2:1-20

The Nativity – Jesus Christ, the Son of God, is born in a stable. His Mother places Him in a manger. He is visited by the Shepherds and Wise Men.

Resolution – I desire the love of God. Christ became man; I will become Christ-like.

Thanks – Thank you, Mary, for helping Christ become man and me become Christ-like.

? What do you think of when you review this mystery?

… What must it have been like for Mary, Joseph and Jesus in the manger?   … Think about poverty. “As long as you neglected the least of my brothers, you neglected me.”   … How would it feel to be one of the Shepherd’s when the angels announced His arrival? Or one of the wise men who traveled to see the new King?   … Think about how humbling it is for God to come as one of us…. “From Creator he became man and from eternal life to temporal death.”

About Me

Hi, my name is Lisa and I'm passionate about helping others learn to love the rosary.

I prayed the Rosary for years, as if a child. I only grasped what it was meant to do when I came across an old booklet, probably from the 1950’s, that connected the bible passages to my life with resolutions.

I'd love to get a thorough description of what the Rosary really is to each of you.
